yea i do the same thing, i asked mainly because i'm also a comic/manga artist and i'm trying to improve in background stuff, when i saw this i thought to myself "well, maybe if THIS didn't take too long for them i shouldn't have too much of a problem doing something this detailed" then i died when i heard the reality of it... not that i can't do that much detail... i'm just trying to get stuff done a little quicker i guess :/

It's better to take your time on it until you get good at it than rush through it. I'm still working on backgrounds, but if you see from the start of my comic until now, there have been significant improvements in my rendering.

The quickness comes after familiarity. I can crank out a page with mostly figures in no time at all, but that wasn't always the case.
