I'll be driving up from Washington DC, a wonderful 12 hour car ride, to exhibit at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival in Toronto, May 5-6….. Well- I am totally flat broke, so in an effort to pay for my gas/tolls and hotel for TCAF, I'm having AN ORIGINAL PAGE SALE!!!! WOOO!!! Macchina original comic boards for everyone..!!!!!!

Since I started drawing La Macchina Bellica in 2007, I've been holding onto my original comic boards. I started out drawing Macchina on 11 x 17 Blue Line Pro comic boards. Mid Chapter 6 I stopped inking by hand, switching to digital (Manga Studio) and by the first part of Chapter 7, I switched to drawing my pencils on 8.5 x 11 xerox paper.

I have four huge portfolios of comic pages that have been languishing in my storage trunk in the basement for years. I've been meaning to sell them for a while now, but rescanning all these pages proved to be a MONUMENTAL task! BUT IT'S FINALLY DONE!

If you've ever wanted to own your favorite pages from Chapters 1-6 (and part of 7), now is your chance! You can check out my BIG CARTEL STORE to jump on this! Inked pages start at $25 (more for covers and double-page spreads), penciled pages as low as $5 (unless you count the one i spilled wine on, that one is seriously 50 cents).

BUY SOME PAGES! woo!!!

PROMO CODES:

IF YOU WANT TO PICK UP YOUR PAGES AT THE TORONTO COMIC ARTS FESTIVAL -use code LOCAL1 for free shipping.

BUY 4 PAGES GET 1 FREE - (For Inked Pages) - use promo code GETONEFREE - Because of Big Cartel's system of discounts, the trigger to use this code is to have $125 worth of original pages in your cart (5 inked pages) and then the discount code will take $25 off your order. Get your favorite scene! (you know you want that scene of Perth and Aiden on the roof eating tomatoes and smoking in chapter 3!)

These pages will be up until Thursday night before TCAF, when I will put them all on hold since I'll be taking the books with me to the show! Any pages sold will be removed from the listings and re-activated.

Hello darlings!!

THE FREAK OUT IS OVER!! I finished my Smut Peddler submission, WHEW!! For those who don't know, Smut Peddler is an adult anthology run by Spike of   Templar, AZ fame.  I illustrated a story with the writer Alice Hunt of Goodbye Chains- set in October 1957, New York City. It's an OYAJI story (mmm hot older men). Once the anthology goes up on Kickstarter, I will be sure to link it!

I'm starting the designs for reoccurring characters in Kindling and will be finishing up my outstanding commissions in the next two weeks. Kindling is going along swimmingly! I just signed my second contract -  to design the characters. Chapter 1 is in the writing works, and should be delivered to me in March. I'm pretty excited about this! It looks like it's going to be pretty sweet! <3

As some of you saw, Macchina has updated again! I still don't have a set schedule for updates yet - the reason being that I want to try to get Volume 2 in print by my next convention (in May), which consists of Chapters 6-8. I need to finish thumbnailing chapter 8 to figure out exactly how long it will be and see if my goal is in any way feasible! LOL I have the chapter written out, but I'm not entirely certain how long it will be!  I know we're about halfway through (probably). Once Chapter 8 is complete, I will be taking time off to compile Volume 2 for print. I am hoping to have the book in color, but that is still up in the air! Unfortunately,  my current computer can't handle the large files i use for my comic (600dpi) and has lost pages on me before. If I don't get a new computer, I won't be able to color the comic pages very easily. Once the volume is page-counted, depending on how close it is to the convention, I will either print a small PoD run for the convention, and then have a Kickstarter or just flat out have a Kickstarter for the printing of Volume 2.

In other news, I want to make a PVC figure of Aiden and Perth! It's something I've wanted to do for a while, but my personal casting knowledge isn't good enough for something this complex! It's going to be of Aiden and Perth fighting back to back! More news on that once things are more than just thoughts in my head, LOL. This will probably be for the fall convention season. I'm going to probably go through Gensen Figure, who does custom orders in larger quantities. Hopefully there is enough readership/interest for me to be able to fund a run! another possible Kickstarter!

I also have two anthologies I am participating in this year, due in March. One is a constellation anthology, where I will be illustrating the constellation of The Peacock. The second is a Ghost-Book anthology, where I will have a double page spread of something ghosty! More news on that as it develops.

WHICH BRINGS ME TO CONVENTIONS

I have been accepted to exhibit at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival, May 5-6 in Toronto! SO I WILL BE THERE, a nervous American! Please stop by and say hi! This is the convention I'm hoping to have volume 2 done for! WE SHALL SEE *_____*

I'm hoping to exhibit at Otakon (as per usual) and Small Press Expo (forms already submitted)! But those are honestly the only conventions on the docket this year.

I'm going to be focusing on Macchina and Kindling, so I don't think I'll be traveling to many conventions for this year!

Any interest in original comic pages?

Fri Nov 18, 2011, 8:17 AM
So, I've got huge portfolios of original Macchina pages, chapters 1 through partway into 7 (though it's only inked halfway through chapter 6). I would like to sell these and was going to set them up on my BigCartel shop ( macchina.bigcartel.com ) but it would require rescanning the pages, which is time consuming.

Is there any interest? They are 11 x 17 blue line pro art boards. I was thinking of selling them at $20 each.

Also, this weekend I am going to have a big sale on my web-shop, so stay tuned! Everything is going to be marked down, and there will be freebies included in each order. I'm going on a trip to NYC the first weekend in December and wanted to raise funds for it!

UPDATE 11/8 : Thank you everyone for your support! Thanks to YOU, I've won the Modcloth contest!! <3 <3 I'm so excited! The announcement was made late last night! I'm so excited for this opportunity, and to pick out some new clothing (which i definitely need!).

Thank you so much! Look forward to a photoshoot once the items arrive! <3

UPDATE 11/4: From the Modcloth page: "Due to technical difficulties with the voting app, we've extended our voting period and we're announcing the winner of our Just Our 'Arche-type' Contest on Monday, Nov. 7 at 5 p.m. PT."

While I currently have a large lead, anything can happen over the weekend, so I implore everyone to continue to spread the word and watch the contest! Thank you so much, everyone who has already voted! Your kind words have meant so much to me! I very much appreciate everything everyone has done to help me get this far in the contest!

If you prefer to promote and reblog through Tumblr - I've made a post there as well: dechanique.tumblr.com/post/122…

_____________ORIGINAL POST______________________

Good morning, everyone!!

I write this journal this morning because I have been selected as a finalist for ModCloth's www.modcloth.com/ Arche-Type contest! In this contest, I could win a $500 gift card.  For thsoe who have not been following me on Twitter, over the past year I have lost 90lbs with diet and exercise. I have dropped from a size 22 to a 10.  Five weeks ago, I had skin removal surgery to remove all the extra skin leftover from the weight loss, and thus lost another 3 inches off my waist. I'm super happy with myself and my new body, but dropping so many sizes so rapidly has left me with not many clothes to wear.

thanks to the generosity of my friends and family, who have donated clothes for me, I am not buck naked, but I find I have huge gaps in my wardrobe, particularly work clothes and winter coats (I only have one coat).  Nothing would make me happier than to win this contest and get that gift card, to replenish my wardrobe!

Please consider going to this Facebook link below for the Modcloth contest and voting for me! Last I checked, I was in second place. Voting closes at 11am PT on 11/4 (Friday). I would be incredibly grateful if you would spread the word and get your friends to vote too!

It would mean the world to me to win this contest and be able to buy some new clothes!!

Update 10/21: I've added 4 new items - original art sketchbooks. These books are actual pages from my 2010 sketchbook, set up in individual booklets, ranging from 16 to 28 pages. Also, from now until the end of the month I am offering free in-book (or invoice) sketches on all purchases!

Hello everyone!

As you know, I had surgery not too long ago (the 27th of September) and i've been spending the last week + pretty much sleeping all the time.

One of the things I DID manage to do, however, was get up all my inventory into  my Big Cartel store! macchina.bigcartel.com/

Macchina volume 1, chapter 6's, Kindling preview booklets, silkscreen prints, all sorts of lovely goodies! This is IT guys, this is all the stuff I have! I will not be reprinting books until next year's convention season, so jump on it!

If you've considering buying stuff from me but haven't, I would like to encourage you to do so now! I took two weeks unpaid leave to recover from surgery, so I want to try to make up the difference by selling these wonderful goods, especially since the last two conventions I went to weren't particularly financially lucrative (i broke even and that was about it). Yeah, lame sob story but it's true! Buy things! Pay my rent! LOL

Pass it around, tell your friends!

I have 5 double page spreads (10 pages) left to pencil and all 15 pages left to ink and 17 days until the convention. I need to get a spread done every two days to have a shot at inking, and then copying on the 9th (Friday) before the con.

The Day Prince Snot Nose Made Friends

Mon May 2, 2011, 11:25 AM
My first published freelance work, The Day Prince Snot Nose Made Friends, is now up for purchase on Amazon!

I drew all the illustrations for the book. With characters like Prince Snot Nose, Princess Toilet Seat and Prince Garbage Can, I had to do it. Also note, I had nothing to do with the pricing or advertising of this book. I'm trying to get my name as illustrator on the Amazon listing (I'm on the front cover, but the listing only puts up Johanna as the author) and hopefully get them to put up a synopsis and some interior pages.

I do receive quarterly earnings for this book, so if you're interested, please buy it! I'll get the money... eventually! LOL

A couple updates:

Thank you everyone who came out to Megacon and MoCCA this past month! I met a ton of awesome people and had great times. I will be attending TCAF, but not exhibiting or paneling (as far as I know. I was waitlisted- emailed but haven't heard back). I look forward to meeting tons of cool people and showering them with praise and most likely money..

ON THAT NOTE-
Both Volume 1's and Chapter 6's are back up for sale in the MACCHINA STORE!!!

Sorry for the slow updates on Macchina, but I'm totally wiped out from the above mentioned back to back cons, and I've been working on 2 paid comic projects (12 and 15 pages- so something easy to deal with for now!) and commissions.  More info on those when I can! But anyways.. I'm hoping to get this spread done this weekend. I post more frequent status updates on twitter; and i post progress pictures sometimes on the tumblr!

I kind of go with my gut as far as backgrounds are concerned, but if you want something detailed/specific, I'm going to charge you extra. ALSO, NONE OF THESE ARE COMICS. I have a special rate for comics. If you wanted to do a comic with me, note me and we can discuss it, but my time is limited and I will only accept comic projects that are SHORT (ie a one shot),PAID, and something I actually want to draw. There's a bunch of other stuff I have to say about comic commissions, but that can be said if someone is actually interested...

I draw whatever, fanart, original, yaoi/yuri/het (as hardcore or tame as you want), pinups, whatever! If I do a commission for you, I reserve the right to post it up in my gallery (here, y-gallery, or hentai-foundry depending on what its of) and if its something generic (a request draw me some hot chick in a cowboy outfit, or draw me a water nymph - essentially me doing character design) I reserve the rights to sell prints/use the designs. You can do whatever you want with your picture, make icons, I don't care, just credit me for the art and we're golden! :D I don't care if you make copies for your friends, just don't be sellin' my shit, that's my job LOL!

I accept paypal mostly (please mark it as a gift so I don't get fees! XD). I ask for payment in full up front, because too many people have just never paid me.

If you get a traditional media commission and you want it mailed to you, it is $5 priority in the USA. Outside the USA rate depends on your country- just go to USPS.com and it would be like, a 3 oz priority flatrate envelope from Washington, DC.

The page isn't pretty, but it does the job! I will have books at Megacon and MoCCA where you can purchase them (as supplies last). You also get some extras with the bundle, so check it out! :D
